Most women will have bladder issues at some point in their lives. Some are temporary, such as bladder infections. Others, such as stress incontinence, bladder spasms, and interstitial cystitis can be chronic, debilitating problems. Stress incontinence, or leaking with coughing, laughing, sneezing, bending, and lifting, can be embarrassing if it occurs at an inopportune time. Bladder spasms, or overactive bladder, can lead to frequent urination, to the point that a map of restrooms in the region controls the course of the day. The spasms can lead to urge incontinence if not controlled. Interstitial cystitis, a disorder causing urinary frequency and sometimes progressing to bladder pain, is much more common than previously thought. Interstitial cystitis responds well to dietary management and is frequently all that is needed to control symptoms. These are all treatable conditions that do not have to control your life.
